Dear Christine,

As you may be aware, the recent rains have caused several significant landslides originating from the Soldier Field property.  Two of them have caused significant damage to homes on Lucas Drive and Lucas Court.  Three of them are almost right under proposed building sites.

Burtonvalley.com and a number of neighbors have raised concerns about the lack of detailed and site specific mitigation measures cited in the Draft EIR intended to address soil erosion and drainage environmental impacts, and questioned whether this lack of specificity is sufficient to automatically assume that this exposure can be reduced to a "less than significant" level.

I think these recent events provide ample evidence that this assumption is not valid.  I realize that the public comment period for the DEIR has passed, however I think these recent landslides justify more comprehensive analysis and site-specific planning before the city agree with an assumption that generic mitigation methods can reduce landslide and drainage impacts to a less than significant degree.  Right now, you have several people who have no heat in their house because their furnaces are plugged with mud, and you'll have a hard time convincing them that the city should accept a generic mitigation assumption.

Thanks for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Clifford M. Tong
